Panic Attacks In Children

How to Handle Panic Attacks In Children?

Panic attacks in children are often identified in their very early years and these attacks can often plague them from the early stages of life right through into adulthood. This can be particularly frustrating and worrying for parents too, especially in very young children who have not yet developed full speech and are unable to communicate their feelings clearly. This can often lead to parents punishing their children as the anxiety may manifest itself as a tantrum and the child may appear to be acting up on purpose.

It’s important then that as parents, we need to be able to recognize these early symptoms of anxiety disorder or panic attacks so we can best act on getting them the proper care and support needed. Parents also need to be understanding of their child’s condition and look to show support rather than chastising their children for what seems on the surface to be quite unacceptable behaviour.

It’s naturally a very painful experience having to witness your children having to cope with this anxiety and anguish, but by learning more about the symptoms and causes of panic attacks, the knowledge and understanding a parent can gain is invaluable in enabling them to help and support their child and their condition. Rather than feeling helpless when these attacks can occur, instead a parent can learn to cope and in turn calm a situation. These attacks and anxiety may start to increase in your young child and the uncertainty as to when they can strike can often put a downer on even the simplest of outings.

Children’s reaction and coping with panic can lead to tantrums and a flailing of limbs, which means they may lash out at those nearest to them. In turn they also run the risk of hurting themselves when in the middle of a particularly terrifying attack. They may also lash out verbally and speak to you in a way you would not normally expect them to, however these are all natural reactions to anxiety or panic. Try and make a note of what they say and any other extraordinary behavior and keep a journal of events.

By documenting your observations, these notes can then be used to better understand the patterns that occur and may be causing the stress in your child. Make notes of where you were, what your child was doing, what they were saying and who else was around at the time it happened. By doing this, Health Professionals will be able to better identify what may be triggering these attacks, and in turn can identify the appropriate treatments that may be required. Anxiety and Panic in children can often be triggered by events or experiences in school, relationships with friends, family issues, and can also be a result of something

You don’t need to look far and you will find numerous online support groups and forums that are available for parents to discuss, share and advise on their experiences with anxiety and panic attacks in their children. It is very important that your child knows that they are not in the wrong and that you are there for them to support and help them through what is a very stressful and alarming time for them. Take control of the situation (and by this I mean a compassionate and understanding attitude) and let your child know that you are there for them, and also to help them overcome their condition.

It is very important that your child understands that none of this is ‘their fault’. Without the support of an understanding parent, these continued attacks can give your child incredibly low self esteem and self worth. When you recognize the symptoms, then you can better prepare yourself for those moments when they start to behave abnormally. Rather than reaching out to restrain them when they are throwing a tantrum, make sure you can ease the situation and help them calm down sooner. It is also very important to keep reminding yourself that this is in no way a reflection on you as a parent. Instead panic and anxiety in children is a recognized disorder that can be treated and can be cured.

Hang on in there and be with them to help them overcome their anxiety and stress. Remain patient while you work together with your child to find a remedy or solution that will finally see them free from their anguish. Whilst distressing at first, once you can understand the ‘why’ this is happening, it’s easier to concentrate on the ‘how’ you can help them get better.

  • Many people suffer from acne at one time or another, many during their adolescent years or even as adults. Whenever acne shows up, it’s no fun. Cystic Acne is among the most severe forms of this skin condition, characterized by the large red cysts that appear on the skin. To find the best cystic acne treatment it is important to understand what causes the outbreaks and how diet, living conditions and your gender and age figure in to the picture.

Some of the factors that lead to this skin condition are stress, overactive skin oil glands, fluctuations in hormones, the accumulation of dead skin cells and diet. Given the many different factors that can lead to acne, the cystic acne treatment that is most effective will be one that addresses each of these conditions as they apply to you, if not all of them.

Acne develops as a result of the skin pores becoming clogged with dead skin cells, oils or other materials. Bacteria build up and the body’s immune response causes inflammation with redness, swelling and pain. Cystic pustules are characterized by red, large (5 mm diameter) lumps that are often painful and unsightly.

    Cystic Acne Treatment

A common approach to curing this acne is to start with home remedies and work your way up if necessary to medicines or treatments recommended by your doctor or dermatologist.

Below are several home based cystic acne treatment options that you can try…

    Apple Cider Vinegar

Drink a Mix of 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar with 8-10 oz. twice per day.

After washing face with a neutral pH soap, dab apple cider vinegar on affected areas and allow to dry. Do this once each morning and evening. It is the anti-bacterial properties of apple cider vinegar which, as an cystic acne treatment, have helped many control the outbreaks.

    Turmeric

The anti-bacterial properties of turmeric have also been known to help reduce the appearance of acne. Try this cystic acne treatment by mixing the following ingredients below and drink before bedtime.

    1 tsp Turmeric

    1/4 tsp Cinnamon

    1 c Hot Water

    1 tsp Honey (to taste)

    2-3 tbsp milk (to taste)

    Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil contains an ingredient called terpinen that has antimicrobial properties. Applying a 5% solution to acne lesions has been a popular cystic acne treatment and has helped many with a reduction of inflamed and non-inflamed acne.

    Treatment Medications

There are a variety of over-the-counter products you can try for your cystic acne treatment. Their effectiveness will depend on the severity of the acne and how well your body reacts to the medications. Many of these contain Benzoyl Peroxide as the active ingredient. Before starting any over-the-counter cystic acne treatment be sure to read all the information and possible side effects associated with the over-the-counter medications.

For more severe cases, a dermatologist can prescribe antibiotics or other medications available only through prescription. Often these medications will have side effects that you will want to be aware of before starting them. Be sure to have your doctor or dermatologist explain all known side effects before starting any prescribed medical cystic acne treatment.

Use Bee Pollen for Weight Loss

If you wan to use bee pollen for weight loss you should be excited about the fact that it is good for your body. Too many products out there aren’t a good idea when you consider the long-term effects that they can have on the functions of the body. If you plan to use bee pollen though there are some tips to help you get the most out of that process.

First, you have to make sure you aren’t allergic to it. Most people aren’t but what if you happen to be one of them? You want to start out with a very low amount of it and see how your body does for a period of 24 hours before you use more if it. Some side effects that may occur include itching, hives, nausea, and an upset stomach. If there is a severe allergy then it may become very hard to breath.

Make sure to sample how bee pollen will affect you while you have access to medical facilities, just in case you need them. This would rarely be the case, but you should be prepared. You don’t want to be out in the middle of nowhere and need help due to an adverse reaction.

The next tip about using bee pollen for weight loss is that you don’t always get the same quality in a given product. You want to get a product that has been freeze-dried, versus those that have been dried with heat. When been pollen is freeze-dried, all of the nutrition it offers is well preserved. However, when it is dried using heat, then a great deal of that nutritional value has been depleted from it.

Always make sure you use the right dosage too. Don’t be in too big a hurry to lose weight rapidly. If your idea is that by taking twice as much bee pollen, you will lose twice as much weight you are wrong. You always want to read the label on any product as the dosage may vary from one to the next.

Always drink lots of water when you use bee pollen for weight loss. The water will help the pollen to be successfully absorbed into the body. You also need to have a plan for healthy eating and exercise every day. You can’t just take bee pollen and have the weight drop off without any effort on your part.

A great advantage in taking bee pollen for weight loss is that there are other health benefits that come about while taking this supplement. It stimulates all the body organs and glands, this gives you greater energy, stimulates libido and sexual functions as well as helping to increase longevity.

With these results, why wouldn’t you use bee pollen for weight loss.

  • You surely have heard of the term sleep apnea before, but you may not have any idea of what it really means. To simply put it, it is an episode of breathlessness that lasts for around 10-20 seconds and it can reoccur several times in a night. This is brought about by a restriction on the airway which is possibly caused by relaxed soft tissues such as the tongue or tonsils. With this obstruction and the eventual pauses in breathing, there can be a serious threat which can be associated to the lack of oxygen supply to the brain because of the episodes of absence of breathing. For that very reason, there are devices are available to aid people suffering from this condition in getting uninterrupted breathing at night.

Listed below are few of the vital things that you should learn about sleep apnea devices and sleep apnea in general:

    • Sleep apnea devices are actually for the purpose of placing the lower jaw in an appropriate position in relation to the tongue as well as the palate so that tendencies of an oral collapse will be prevented.
    • Continuous positive airway pressure or CPAP is one of the most famous sleep apnea devices. What it does is help maintain a constant flow of air into the lungs in order to prevent constriction of the airways.
    • CPAP is not a one-time use machine. It should be used at all times during sleeping and even during taking naps in order for you to take advantage of its effects. You cannot expect to use the CPAP device once and feel all better and free from snoring after that.
    • Another kind among the sleep devices is a dental appliance. Originally, dental appliances were made to address snoring problems but then were eventually discovered to also help in easing problems in people with mild to moderate sleep issues after modifications on the device were done.
    • Just like doctors who specialize in different fields such as psychiatry, neurology, etc., there are also professionals who specialize in making sleep apnea devices. There are dental specialists who can help a person who have sleep problems to customize a dental appliance that will be perfectly fitted on them and will be suitable for their condition.
    • Before one can start choosing among the sleep devices available today, it will be best if they first undergo sleep studies in order to verify if they indeed really need to use a sleep device. Hospitals offer this kind of test wherein they test for the body movement, the brain activities, heart rate, oxygen saturation, etc., in order to determine if one is indeed suffering from sleep apnea.

If sleep apnea will be left untreated and that no appropriate measure was taken like for instance considering using sleep apnea devices, one is likely to develop further medical conditions such as narcolepsy and depression.

  • Symptoms are the things which the patient notices and which prompt him to visit the doctor. Signs are the things which the doctor notices or detects on examining the patient.

It is important to realize that the mild to moderate hypertension usually produces no symptoms in the early stages there are usually no abnormal physical findings other than the hypertension. That is why many hypertensives are detected during routine examination for employment or life-insurance.

In the early stages, symptoms which are frequently attributed to the high blood pressure are difficult to differentiate from those associated with general temperament and constitution of the individual especially liable to high blood pressure, i. e. nervousness, irritability, loss of energy, easy fatigue and insomnia. Headache, dizziness and impairment of memory and concentration are later features.

Headache is troublesome and sometimes intractable. It is usually throbbing in nature and felt at the back of head and neck and worse on waking.

Giddiness or dizziness is occasionally felt by the patient and usually he is afraid to walk alone. But fortunately this giddiness is intermittent in nature. In elderly patients giddiness may be due to arteriosclerosis of blood vessels with loss of elasticity of arterioles due to ageing process and also may be due to degenerating vision and arthritic changes in the limbs. It is also important to remember that in individuals who are already taking drugs for their high blood pressure, the drugs themselves can produce giddiness especially on changing their posture suddenly.

Unexplained tiredness is felt by many. This may be due to high blood pressure or may be due to temperament and attitude of the individual towards life.

Changes in the eye sight may necessitate changes in glasses. The one place in the body which serves as a window through which one can see the arteriolar disease is the eye-in the retina the arterioles are directly visible. This is easily seen by the doctor with the help of an instrument called “ophthalmoscope”. The changes in the arterioles with hemorrhages and swelling can be easily seen and these findings are graded into four stages. Stage IV indicates very severe damages and stage I indicates early hypertensive changes. Blindness is rare.

Shortness of breath is due to heart failure. First noticed with exertion such as running or strenuous work and if left untreated will progress to breathlessness at rest. Sometimes acute attacks of breathlessness occur at night.

‘Angina Pectoris’ is a distressing discomfort or pain usually felt over the front of chest. Reduced blood supply to heart muscle due to atherosclerosis with added extra work load on the heart due to hypertension may cause Angina. Like breathlessness, it occurs first with severe exertion and later even with slight exertion like walking, causing the patient to stop until the pain disappears. If coronary artery is completely blocked, the condition is called Coronary Thrombosis, commonly known as a “Heart Attack”.
